New series for 2020

Starting on January 5, 2020, Two Rivers Church will begin a series called “First Story: The beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ.” This will be a 15-week series that focuses on the Gospel of Mark. It is called “First Story” because the Gospel of Mark is widely recognized by scholars to be the first written document about Jesus’ life and ministry.

Tradition holds that the Gospel of Matthew was the first, and that is why it is the first book of the New Testament. That understanding has been altered over the last century. The Gospel of Mark is the most raw, un-theological book of the New Testament. Today, most scholars believe that it was a source for the other three gospel writers. Reading the Gospel of Mark gives people a chance to see Jesus through the lens of the earliest Christians. This series is a chance to walk with Jesus from his baptism through his ministry in Galilee, his journey to Jerusalem, his passion, suffering, and death. It will end on Easter Sunday with the discovery of the empty tomb.

In addition to the weekly sermons, there will be two different Bible studies people can attend to go deeper into the Scripture. The Monday afternoon class will continue to meet at noon. Another weeknight study will be added on either Tuesday or Thursday.
