On February 26, Two Rivers Church and the Church of Peace will share an Ash Wednesday service and pot-luck dinner at the Church of Peace, U.C.C. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the season of Lent. It marks the start of our journey toward Easter. The churches will come together again on Holy Thursday at Two Rivers Church
A pot-luck dinner will be shared between the churches together before the service. The dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. All are invited to bring a dish to share, but please do not consider bringing a dish a requirement to enjoy the dinner. All are invited, whether or not they can bring food.
The Ash Wednesday service will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Pastor Robb McCoy will share the message. A joint choir from members of Two Rivers and Church of Peace will present a choral anthem. As a part of this service, both Pastor Mariah Marlin-Warfield and Pastor Robb will impose ashes on those wishing to be marked by Christ.
Ash Wednesday is an ancient commemoration of mortality, repentance, and preparedness as we move toward Easter. Lent is a season of reflection and spiritual examination. This solemn evening of fellowship, prayer, and praise is a perfect way to begin your journey.
The Church of Peace is located at 1114 12th Street in Rock Island. It is at the corner of 12th Street and 12th Avenue.
