Christmas Eve is on Sunday this year, and we will have two services.
9:30 a.m. is the fourth Sunday of Advent. We will share worship as a typical Sunday style. We will tell the fourth Grandmother story, Bathsheba.
4:00 p.m. is the Christmas Eve Service. We will sing Christmas songs, light the Christmas candles, share Communion, and finish he night with the singing of “Silent Night” as the light of Christ fills the sanctuary.

On November 26 we will decorate the church for Advent. Many hands make light work as we build and decorate the Chrismon tree, set up other Christmas trees, hang wreaths and garland, and prepare for the festive season. We will begin the work of hanging the greens shortly after worship. When the decorating is complete, we will share a prayer for the Chrismon tree and then have a soup luncheon in Epworth Hall. There will be crafts for the kids and jobs for them as well. There will be a sign up sheet provided for those who wish to bring a soup or dessert for the luncheon.
On the second and fourth Thursday of the month, men will gather at Two Rivers Church at 8:30 p.m. The Big Steppers (sometimes simply called “Guys’ Night,”) are a group of men who are willing to share their lives, thoughts, struggles, and joys. It is a time of intentional conversation in a non-judgmental setting.
(more…)Aubrey Barnes will lead an overnight retreat with the Young Lions Roar at Camp Milan Retreat Cetner for students in 8th through 12th grade. The retreat will begin on Friday, October 6 at 6:00 and last until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7.
Trameka Woods and Chris Britton, experienced spoken-word performers, will help lead workshops during the event. Dinner on Friday and breakfast and lunch will be provided on Saturday. Registration is free and available at younglionsroar.com
Those who are interested in joining Two Rivers United Methodist Church as members are invited to a lunch at Epworth Hall on Sunday, July 16, at 12:00 p.m. This is the Sunday of worship at Schwiebert Park (which is at 10:30 a.m.), so the timing should work out to come to church right after the service in the park.
At the lunch, families can learn a little history of Two Rivers Church, go over the basics of Wesleyan theology, and learn some about each other and Pastor Robb. A date for the group to take vows of membership will be selected at the luncheon. The lunch will be catered by a local restaurant, so please RSVP ahead of time. Current members who would like to participate are invited as well.
On Sunday, July 16 at 10:30 a.m. the people of Two Rivers are invited to join in a multi-church worship service at Schwiebert Park. There will not be worship at the church that day. Instead, everyone is invited to bring a lawn chair to the bandshell at Schwiebert Park for a time of worship.
In addition to Two Rivers Church, there will be people and pastors from The House Church (Rock Island), New Journey African Methodist Episcopal Church (Moline), and Life Church (East Moline). This is a tremendous chance for building community and witnessing to Christ’s love in Rock Island.
