Start Date: The current music director is retiring on June 1, 2025. We would like to hire before then.
Overview
The Music Director plays a pivotal role in shaping the musical vision and enhancing the worship experience of Two Rivers United Methodist Church. This position requires a passionate individual who can educate, inspire, and lead musicians of all skill levels. The Music Director’s primary responsibility will be leading the adult choir, but is the supervisor of all music ministries, staff, and volunteers. The Music Director works closely with the pastor as a collaborative team to enhance the spiritual growth of the church. There is possibility to do this job as well as direct the hand bell choir, which is an additional income.
Duties
- Develop and implement the overall musical program, including leading the choir, and overseeing other music ministries, such as hand bell choir, African choir, ukuleles, children’s choir (not all of these are up and active right now, but there is history of all of these ministries being active in the last few years).
- Select hymns and worship music in conversation with the pastor, creating a worship experience that is cohesive with music and message, with progressive Christ-centered theology.
- Conduct rehearsals and performances, ensuring high artistic standards are met.
- Educate musicians on music theory, technique, and performance practices.
- Communicate effectively with musicians, staff, and stakeholders to foster a positive working environment.
- Create an inviting atmosphere that welcomes all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, or nationality.
- Mentor individual musicians and ensembles to enhance their skills and confidence.
- Encourage recruitment and invitation to gain new volunteers in music ministry.
- Maintain an organized schedule for rehearsals, performances, and other events.

Hand Bell Choir Director
Overview
We are seeking a dynamic leader to direct our hand bell choir. This is a small choir of volunteers that plays at least once a month. The hand bell choir usually does not meet in the summer.
Responsibilities
- Provide a hand bell anthem at least once per month during the nine-month choir year.
- Provide additional music during other special worship seasons such as Lent and Advent as time, abilities, and personnel allows.
- Rehearsals are scheduled as needed by director (typically adjacent with the sanctuary choir, to allow volunteer members to attend both rehearsals)
- Rehearse before the 9:30 service on the Sundays in which bell choir is playing
- Oversee the care, maintenance, storage, transportation, and repair of the handbells and related equipment.
- Review, select, and oversee purchase of new music appropriate to the ability and makeup of the choir.
- Recruit and train new members of the choir.
- Participate, in conversation with pastor and music director, in off-site services and bell choir festivals.
