Baptism and Confirmation
In the United Methodist Church, we believe that infants can be baptized – not to prevent them from going to hell if something tragic happens – but because God’s love and acceptance is offered to all without any condition. Infants are a part of God’s family, and can be embraced and welcomed into the community of faith. We also do not believe that the amount of water matters. The Holy Spirit doesn’t need a certain amount of water to enter into someone’s life.
That being said, we do full immersion baptisms and some people decide to wait until they are older to be baptized. If you are interested in baptism – either full immersion or as a sprinkling, contact Pastor Robb and we can make arrangements.
Confirmation takes place whenever we have a group of young people, roughly age 12-15 who are interested in claiming their faith on their own. Confirmation is a way for someone who was baptized to take a formal public step in their own faith. For Confirmation and Immersive baptisms, we wait until we have a group of at least 5 to do a class together. There will likely be a Confirmation/Baptism class in the fall of 2027.
SUNDAY SCHOOL (10:30-11:45 every Sunday between Labor Day and Memorial Day)
Every Sunday the kids and youth meet upstairs for Kids Choir. Led by one of our youth leaders, the first 15-20 minutes are usually learning a song that will be shared in worship. After splitting into age-appropriat groups, the kids will learn about a Bible story for blocs of 4 weeks.
This fall we are learning about Compassion through the story of Jesus feeding 5000 people. The second unit will be about Justice, and we will share the story of Jesus coming into Jerusalem and clearing the Temple.
After Thanksgiving, they will start working on a Christmas program that will be shared in worship on December 20.
YouthConnect
Monthly gatherings with the Quad Cities United Methodist Connection are called YouthConnect. These are usually on the third Sunday of the month at various Methodist congregations in the area.
