    #tryLENT photo journal

TRYLent revisedThis Lent, the people of Two Rivers United Methodist Church are encouraged to participate in a new discipline. Starting on Ash Wednesday, people are encourage to participate in this photo journal. There is a theme for each week from Wednesday to Wednesday. Over the course of the week, people can take pictures and post them on Facebook, Instragram, Pinterest, or Twitter. All pictures posted should include the hashtag #TRYLent.

Each weekly theme coincides with the sermon that will be given at Two Rivers on the Sunday of the week. This way, pictures that are posted before Sunday can be shared at worship. Then, after the worship experience, people can continue to ponder the theme for the week for a few days before moving on. Each major theme is a song from the musical Godspell. Under the main theme are several smaller ideas that you can capture over the course of the week.

Each Sunday in Lent Pastor Robb will be talking about a song, theme, or story from the musical Godspell. Two Rivers and The Center for Living Arts are working all through Lent on producing the musical on Palm Sunday at 4 p.m.

    Mardi Gras Worship Feb 15

Mardi Gras SundaySunday, February 15 promises to be an extraordinary day of worship. The last Sunday before Lent has a long history of being a day of celebration. We will come together with music, dancing, and praise. Renowned jazz trumpeter Edgar Crockett will join us in worship. In addition to the first-class jazz, our new youth dancing ministry, Happy Hearts, will make their worship debut. The combined kids’ and youth choir will also join in the fun. We will also celebrate the commissioning of Jim Prather as a Certified Lay Minister. At the service, Jim will officially become our Minister of Senior Adults.

Christmas Eve service of candles and carols

CHRISTMASEVE F;YERChristmas Eve is a special night.  At 6:30 p.m., we will gather for worship with our Bell Choir, Sanctuary Choir, and Youth Choir. We will sing some traditional Christmas hymns, come to the Lord’s table and share Communion, and relight each of the Advent candles.  Please know that the table of Communion is open to all.  The only requirement to take the bread and the cup is a desire to find God.

The service will end with the lighting of the Christ Candle. Then that light will be shared with all who gather as we sing “Silent Night, Holy Night.” The lights will be turned down low as we sing, and hold aloft the light of Christ.  Hopefully, when we go home, the light will remain in our hearts.

Two Rivers Church is at 1820 5th Avenue Rock Island. The parking lot is at the corner of 5th Avenue and 18th Street.  There is an accessible ramp on 19th Street. Get Directions.
