  • Outside Worship for Baptisms

On September 7, weather permitting, we will meet for worship outside in the south parking lot. As United Methodists, we understand that God can use any amount of water for baptism. Yet the symbolism of being fully submerged is a powerful experience. We will have multiple baptisms in one service as we conclude our Finding Faith for the Skeptic series. The above shirt has been ordered for those being baptized, but anyone who wants one of these shirts can order one through the church for $25. Helpers are needed to set up chairs, a sound system, and put things away. We will not share Communion, but will on September 14.

  • Edgar Crockett Trio

The Edgar Crockett Trio is coming to lead worship with toe-tapping energy on August 31. We will sing some old standards as well as bask in the musical joy of the Edgar Crockett Trio. In addition to the fun of special music, Sunday is also Bring Your Bible to Church Day. Every adult is invited to bring their Bible to church. Bring the 3rd grade Bible you received from church, the Family Bible you got for your wedding, the Bible you bought for your first college class, or any Bible that has been meaningful to you.

After worship we will do a “show and tell” for all the Bibles, giving young people a chance to hear why these books are so special. It will be a good day of inter-generational sharing (and there will be some snacks).

  • Worship to honor MLK and Pan-Methodism

To honor the life and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King, Two Rivers Church is invited to be a part of an important weekend of worship and learning at Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church (1201 13th Street, Moline).

On Sunday, January 19, there will be a Pan-Methodist worship service from 3:00-4:30 p.m. The service will feature keynote preacher Reverend Dr. James Pernell and participation from leadership and members from United Methodist Churches and African Methodist Episcopal Churches. The Pan-Methodist Commission is an effort to connect churches with historical roots to John Wesley, especially the United Methodist Church and denominations that are historically African-American.

The worship service will include some discussion about Richard Allen, the founder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Allen founded the first independent, autonomous, and predominantly Black denomination after being discriminated against in his Methodist Church in Philadelphia in 1794.

  • Augustana Two Rivers Group

Pastor Robb is meeting with a small group of students at Augustana College on Tuesdays at 4:15 p.m. They meet in the Geology Building, where there is a small reading room adjacent to the museum. Right now the group is going to work through the book The Awakened Life: An 8-week Guide to Student Well Being. You do not have to be a student at Augustana to participate in the group. If you have missed a few sessions with the book, you are still welcome to come along. The book teaches some simple spiritual exercises that can help your mental and spiritual health. There are also monthly dinners at Pastor Robb’s house. Look for special “Sunday Dinner Club” invitations on our pages on Facebook and Instagram.
